When Stones Speak
Ruff&Cut’s corporate responsibility should be heard in every action and felt in every word. That is the only way to ensure meaning. Which is why, beyond our carefully and respectfully nurtured relationships and business practices, we actively re-invest 10 percent from each sale and a portion of company profits into nonprofit organizations that work to improve conditions in the lives and lands of the people in these mining communities— particularly those of women and children.
The circular logic of re-investment and this sense of completeness are critical to the spiritual well-being of our company.

Shine on Sierra Leone is a nonprofit human service foundation that partners with Bambai Bling. Ruff&Cut donations directly support the organization and assist its projects.
Civilians residing in the diamond-mining communities of Sierra Leone, West Africa, are faced with the seemingly insurmountable task of daily survival. Unsafe drinking water, dangerous roads, dilapidated schools, and minimal housing present challenges that turn what we refer to as “basic needs” into luxuries
In response to these problems, Shine on Sierra Leone provides education, mentoring, and nutritional support to schools in diamond-mining communities.
The St. George Foundation works to relieve poverty and sickness and advance education amongst homeless children and young people in Sierra Leone.
St. George was set up as a result of an aid visit to Sierra Leone in early 2004. Hundreds of unhealthy kids, that we saw everywhere in the city, were mostly war orphans living off their own wits, totally unloved and uncared for by anyone. These children end up living off scraps that they beg or steal, or trade their labor or sexual favors for. They often don't eat for days, and as a result of the lack of a proper diet, lack of sleep because they never actually go to bed, and the total lack of any adult supervision or education, their physical condition, their self esteem, and their chances in life are gradually lost.
They didn't ask for their families to be murdered and their homes burned down; for children of junior school age to have to live like this is absolutely wrong, and to do nothing about it is even worse. For less than an average mobile phone bill we can take one of these children off the streets and start to give them a decent life.
Ruff&Cut seeks to purchase our raw materials from socially responsible sources whenever possible. For transparency, each piece of jewelry comes with a certificate of specific origin.
